Stop #1 – 4 hours in Schipol Airport

Okay…I don’t want to get too ahead of myself here…but I think I’m getting pretty good at this flying thing. Maybe it’s even time for me to stop saying I don’t like flying (what!?!) because that flight was no problem at all.

The fact it was on KLM (and not a low-budget North American airline) surely helped. I mean I got not one but two HOT meals served to me. And free wine. And a hot towel. You don’t get that when you fly in North America that’s for sure.

In addition to the meals the seats were comfortable, the entertainment system easy to use and there was a pillow and blanket on each seat. I watched 4 movies that I have been wanting to see for a while and didn’t have to worry if they were kid-appropriate because I was on a plane without any kids next to me. Winning!

We landed smoothly in Amsterdam to 20 degree weather at 12noon. That’s 3am for me and my body is like why is it so damn light outside when I want to be sleeping.

I walked around a bit to explore the airport and found a couple of tulip kiosks full of colourful blooms. Apparently it’s right at the end of the season here so there aren’t as many as there have been but it’s still a pretty sight.

And I’m currently at my second airport Starbucks of the day (wait – over two days?) and mesmerized by the very cool clock they have here in the terminal. It looks like there is a person inside the clock drawing in the time and erasing and re-drawing every minute.

I would bet this would be interesting to anyone but to someone feeling weary from travel and slightly jet-lagged it is seriously captivating.

I’ve got 3 hours to kill now before my flight leaves for Dublin. Need some caffeine (thank god I’m in a Starbucks!) and some more exercise to get me through this without falling asleep. I’m determined to get to at least 8pm before I crash.

Jetlag be damned. I’ve got shit to do.
